Ah... Flashcards. I started in the 5th grade and used them all the way through my undergraduate and graduate programs. Flash cards can be used for SO many different areas - math, geography, vocabulary in any subject, foreign language.
So as we move into this digital age, wouldn't it be nice to be able to generate flash cards to study from, or better yet - create the flash cards to use in class and at home for our students? Now you have that opportunity with Quizlet. This web tool allows you to create a set of flash cards for free and share them with others.
Quizlet allows users to use the flashcards in a "traditional" fashion by reading one side and then the other, but it also takes flash cards to a new level with a set of challenges that can be played.
If you don't feel like creating your own there are hundreds of pre-made sets of flashcards available. Tryout this one of the 50 states and capitals.
Want to add a bit of variety - you can create flash cards with images. I see great potential in many different subject areas.
Go ahead give it a try and then let me know how you are using Quizlet in your class.
I posted a link to Quizlet on my yolasite about a month ago with an option for the students to create flashcards related to our class for carat cash or extra credit. So far no takers that I'm aware of, but I have heard a few students mention different quizzes they have found--mostly related to driver's ed. tests!
